It is a well known fact that WATER  DAMAGE is the number one cause of LUMBER FAILURE. The Cypress tree spends it's entire life growing in water which makes it Virually IMPERVIOUS to water damage. This fact combined with the  STRONGEST MECHANICAL PROPERTIES listed below is why CYPRESS is simply "THE BETTER OUTDOOR LUMBER"
THESE ARE THE  RESULTS OF MECHANICAL PROPERTY TESTS PERFORMED AND PROVIDED BY:
THE FOREST PRODUCTS LABORATORY (MADISON WI.) , AND THE U.S FORESTRY DEPARTMENT (WASHINGTON D.C)

CYPRESS
                                                              CYPRESS "THE ETERNAL WOOD"
Cypress provides beauty, strength, and longevity. Historically Cypress has been well known for its resistance to decay and insects. This is due to the unquie characteristics of the wood itself. Cypress produces the naturally ocurring preservative "Cypressine which gives it a head start againist the harshest environmental conditions. It's no wonder why so many colonial homes were constructed of this material. Even 100-200 year old buildings that have out lived their usefulness are providing reclaimed Cypress useable for the next round or two. For example this is a fascinating account from a builder/restorer in Virginia. He was amazed to discover that during the restoration of George Washington's grandfather's home near Mount Vernon many of the original Cypress features, (including siding and shingles) were cleaned up and re-used. Now that's longevity! In the early part of the twentieth century, Frank Llyod Wright incorporated  Cypress into his commerical and residential materpieces. He recognized Cypress as his obvious choice.
